Crna mačka, beli mačor ostaje vanvremenska komedija kojoj se publika uvek iznova vraća sa istim žarom, pronalazeći u njoj slavlje života, ljubavi i slobode.
The story follows Matko Destanov, a small-time hustler living with his 17-year-old son, Zare, on the banks of the Danube. After a business deal goes wrong, Matko finds himself deeply in debt to Dadan, a ruthless local gangster. To erase the debt, Dadan forces Matko into a deal: Zare must marry Dadan's sister, Afrodita (nicknamed "Bubamara"/Ladybird), a woman much older than him who only dreams of a prince. Neither Zare (who is in love with Ida) nor Afrodita is willing; a series of farcical complications and a shotgun wedding leads to a wildly chaotic climax that only Kusturica could orchestrate.
The entire plot is set on a garbage dump by the river. Everyone is a scavenger. Yet, they build houses, run moonshine stills, and organize weddings. This is the before it was trendy. A true CEO sees waste as opportunity. The film’s characters monetize everything: stolen fuel, rotten fruit, even a corpse. There is no “junk” in their world—only unmonetized assets.
